During Jimmer Fredette’s storied career at BYU he was lacking a major accomplishment on his resume - beating his rival UNLV on its home floor. Fredette had competed against the Runnin’ Rebels five times in the Thomas & Mack Center prior to Wednesday night to no avail. He didn’t let his senior season pass without finally defeating UNLV in Las Vegas. Putting on an offensive display that rivaled the opening fireworks, Fredette hushed a crowd of 17,942 fans with an array of moves that would make a lot of NBA players jealous. Fredette played all 40 minutes and scored a game-high 3wholesale china watch gpad android 8 Lenovo LePhone GSM+WCDMA Dual Cards with Wifi Java GPS 3G Smart Unlocked Android Cell Phone (Red with Silver) 9800 Quad Band Dual Cards with Analog TV FM External Luxury Power Charger Leather Case Cell Phone(Black with Silver) Sennheiser Style CX380 Earphone Sliver k9700 Quad Band Tri sim Cards with Analog TV FM Bluetooth QWERTY Keyboard Cell Phone asus s6 case bag FM E71 PRO Dual Cards Quad Band FM Bluetooth Unlocked Cell Phone 4gsi9+ gpad shipping time star a3000 china free shipping 60w 2 in 1 electronilc car speaker (black) fs-805t a8 case for 7"" tablet gpad g10 h6 quad band android 2.1 MININO.4 Quad Band Dual Card Dual Camera Flash Light Touch Screen Bar Cell Phone(2GB TF Card) android 9.7 eken m002 google android review samsung wep305 review THUI 9650+ Dual Cards Quad Band Wifi Analog TV Java FM Cell Phone G700 Quad Band Dual Cards with Wifi Analog TV Java FM Touch Screen Cell Phone(White) V999 Dual SIM Card Phone With WIFI / JAVA / TV Unlocked Black Color world wide free shipping LY-886 New A8 8 inch Google Android 2.2 Flash 10.1 Gravity Sensor Android Tablet Black 4GB Coffee Gpad G10 Upgraded Aluminum Shell Android 2.1 MID 1080P Gravity Sensor 1.3 Mega Camera Hero H802 Mobile Phone with DVB-T Digital TV, WiFi, Java, Dual SIM ZOHO A3000 Dual Card Quad Band Java WIFI TV FM Touch Screen Bar Cell Phone Black And Silver 8 points, including seven three-pointers to lift the No. 15 ranked Cougars over UNLV, 89-77. For the Rebels, it was another season of starting Mountain West Conference play off in less than stellar fashion. UNLV started last year’s league play with a loss at BYU. The season before the Rebels faltered in two of their first three games in conference. This one was different, though. UNLV has owned the Cougars in Las Vegas. The Rebels had won eight straight against BYU on their home floor. That’s what made this game more devastating than a typical loss. UNLV head coach Lon Kruger was frustrated afterward, saying, “To lose a ballgame at home is always disappointing. They whipped us. For them to come into our building and do that is disappointing. We have to respond and work harder to try and keep that from happening.” Senior Tre Willis, who takes his match-ups with the BYU star very personally, was even more hurt, “I’m very disappointed. I don’t think I can put it into words right now.” He didn’t need to as you could see it written all over his face and hear it in his voice. The Rebels jumped out to a promising 10-point lead in the first half behind some motivated play by the bench. A trey by Anthony Marshall started things off and was followed by a pair of layups by Justin Hawkins, a short shot by Brice Massamba and a jumper by Willis. That run put UNLV up 25-15 and had the home crowd off their feet in a deafening arena. Then, Fredette decided to take the game into his own hands. The sharpshooter buried four deep 3-pointers in the final 4:37 of the first half to actually give the visitors a lead heading into the locker room. It was an edge the Cougars never gave back. “We were up 10 in the first half and BYU clearly did what they wanted to do and kicked us pretty good from that point on,” Kruger said. “I thought when we were up 10 we had an opportunity on a couple of possessions there to widen it out, but didn’t. Fredette makes a couple of big three’s and that seemed to get them energized a little bit. From that point on, their guys really played well.” Fredette was certainly the catalyst. Using his unorthodox approach of constantly pressuring his defender and then letting up, Fredette consistently got himself just enough room to get off a shot, whether it was inside or out. The end result was usually a made basket. Willis said of Fredette’s technique, “He does a great job of changing speeds. That’s why I get frustrated when us as a group put our hands down and just allow him to shoot the ball. I expect him to shoot every single time. He’s going to get his attempts. That’s not a question. We have to put it in our minds he’s going to shoot the ball.” Despite only being down by three points at the intermission, UNLV came out flat and uninspired to begin the second half. Fredette and shooting partner, Emory Jackson, picked apart the defense for the next 10 minutes, lifting the BYU lead to as much as 20 one of Jackson’s six treys with six minutes left in the game. Willis said a lack of urgency was present coming out of the locker rooms, “We were only down three points at the half. We have to do a better job of coming out of the half with more fight. When they are making shots like that we have to do something else to rattle them a little bit. We didn’t do a good job of that.” Jackson, who doesn’t get near the attention of Fredette, backed up his teammate with 22 points, and was truly the thorn in UNLV’s side all evening. Every time the Rebels thought they had Fredette in a vice, he would find Jackson for a wide open jumper. “Emory was hitting everything. I don’t think we did a good job of closing out or getting a hand over the ball. They were pretty much rhythm jumpers so I think it was a poor job on our end,” Willis commented. Kruger said, “We were stretched in the second half. That’s what a player like Fredette, when he has a game like he had, it affects the entire game. It makes you help a little more and cheat off of others. Emory made us pay for that. Credit their guys for stepping up and doing what they needed to do.” Marshall was the lone bright spot during a very dim performance by the Rebels. The sophomore showed the type of grit and spirit that UNLV is going to have to compete with on a nightly basis in a tough MWC. Playing with a me vs. BYU mentality, Marshall scored 21 of his team-high 26 points during the second half in which he played just 13 minutes. The Rebels will be back at the gym in the afternoon tomorrow in preparation for an improved TCU team that visits Las Vegas on Saturday evening. To a tee, the Rebels all said that getting better and making some alterations is most needed. “We have to learn from this as an experience. This is done, as much as we wish we could get this game back and start over. We just have to look on to the next game against TCU,” Marshall said.
